Common questions
How do I start?
Create a case for the problem, like "Hospital bill" or "Toll notice". Then add what you have: photos, scans, files, emails, notes and calls. Add a reminder for anything you're waiting on.
How do I record a phone call?
iPhone doesn't let apps record phone calls. Use the call recording built into the Phone app instead. It announces itself to everyone on the call, and the recording is saved to Notes. Open the note, share the recording, and choose I'll Circle Back. It's transcribed on your iPhone.
Some places require everyone's permission before a call is recorded. Check the rules that apply to you.
How do I add an email from Mail?
Open the email, tap Reply, then Print. In the print preview, tap Share and choose I'll Circle Back. You can also paste an email's text into a case, or add an .eml file.
How do I add things from Photos, Files, Voice Memos or Notes?
Use the Share button in that app and choose I'll Circle Back. Then pick the case it belongs to.
Can I keep recording if my screen locks?
Yes. Recordings made in the app keep going when the screen locks.
The transcript has mistakes. What should I do?
Transcripts may not be 100% accurate. Where a word or number matters, listen to the recording itself, which is kept in the case.
How do reminders work?
"I need to" is for things you have to do. "Waiting on them" is for when someone said they'd get back to you. Deadlines can have extra reminders days before. Reminders never show a hidden case's name.
Which storage option should I choose?
iPhone + iCloud Drive is recommended. It keeps a full copy of every case in your iCloud Drive, so you can restore on a new phone. iPhone + iPhone backup keeps cases only on your phone, included in your iCloud or computer backup. This iPhone only leaves them out of every backup: the most private, and the easiest to lose. You can change your choice later in Settings.
I got a new iPhone. How do I get my cases back?
With iCloud Drive: install the app, then go to Settings, Back up, export or restore, and choose Restore from iCloud Drive.
With iPhone backup: your cases come back when you set up the new phone from that backup.
From an exported .zip: in the same Settings screen, choose Restore from a backup file and pick the .zip. Restoring only adds cases and items, so nothing already on your phone is changed.
How do I export a case?
Export a case to get one .zip with a readable Case report PDF (timeline, people, follow-ups and pictures), every original file named by date, and a data file the app can restore from. You can also export all your cases to one .zip.
What is a file's fingerprint?
When a file is saved, the app records its SHA-256 fingerprint, a code that changes if the file changes at all. It lets you show a file is the same as when you saved it.
How do I lock the app or hide a case?
Turn on the Face ID or passcode lock in the app's Settings. You can also hide a case. Hidden cases are shown from Settings after you unlock.
How do I cancel the AI subscription?
On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose the I'll Circle Back subscription. Apple handles billing and refunds.
What does the AI add-on send?
Only the case's text (notes, emails, call logs, transcripts and dates), only when you tap, and only after a screen shows exactly what will be sent. You can leave out names, phone numbers and email addresses. Photos, recordings and files are never sent. With the subscription, it goes through our relay to Anthropic and isn't stored. With your own Anthropic API key, it goes straight from your phone to Anthropic.
Can you give me advice about my case?
We're sorry, but we can't. The app and its AI add-on aren't legal advice. For help with your situation, talk to a lawyer or a legal aid office.
